DIY Sugared and Scrubbed.

Standard

My girlfriends are throwing me a surprise bachelorette this weekend and aside from the fact that I know wherever we’re going is driveable, I don’t have a clue what’s ahead.   I have tried {and failed} to beat the details out of them am super excited for all of the details to unfold.

I wanted to surprise all of them with a little gift and since girls are made of “sugar and spice and everything nice”, I’m armed with a DIY sugared surprise for all of them as a small thank you for all they’ve done.

DIY Sugar Scrub

I created my own version of a Sugar Scrub that both exfoliates and moisturizes – simple and easy, it is an easy DIY that can be created with just a few simple ingredients.   Feel free to customize the oils based on your own scent preferences.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup organic brown sugar
  • 1 cup organic white sugar
  • 1/2 cup body oil (I used an almond-scented moisturizing oil)
  • 1 teaspoon argan oil
  • 1 teaspoon rose hip oil
  • Hermetic Jars

Some background on why I chose each of these ingredients:

  • Brown and white sugar — Brown sugar has a bit of a rougher texture than white sugar and when mixed together, they blend the perfect consistency for a scrub which is not too harsh, nor too easy on the skin.
  • Body oil —  There is lots of room for flexibility here – pick your preference.  I used NOW Sweet Almond Oil.  Other alternatives that work nicely are olive oil, or even Neutrogena Body Oil.
  • Argan oil — If you’ve never heard of this before, you must know about Argan Oil – it’s truly a miracle oil – particularly for those of us with semi-frizz ball hair.  Not only does it smooth hair, but it helps protect against wrinkles, reduce skin irritation, repair elasticity and remedy dry skin.
  • Rose hip oil — Rose hip oil is truly an amazing product, which has only recently become recognized by the general public.  It is believed to be the best oil available for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation.  It contains vitamin A, which helps delay the effects of skin aging, assists with cell regeneration, and promotes collagen. This should result in firmer, smoother, and more youthful skin, with greater elasticity.
  • Hermetic Jars — My favorite vintage style glass jars with flip top lids that I found at Surfas. For those of you who don’t live in LA, they have great deals on them here.

Besides the ingredients, all you need is a large bowl, spoon and measuring cups.  Simple, Easy and So Fast.

Add all of your ingredients into a bowl and mix well. The sugar should look “fluffy.” Originally I started out with only 1/3 cup Almond Oil and after mixing it all together, I went back in and added a bit more bringing it to 1/2 cup total to ensure that it wasn’t too dry.  Feel free to add/subtract to your desired consistency.   Once your scrub is blended well, spoon your mixture into airtight containers, label and share!

Tip: This recipe produces enough scrub for two 7-oz. containers.
