Milestone Monday.

Standard

Having some major back end issues on this site over the last few days. GRR.
Kind of presents a problem when you have a lot to say.  I plans.  and thoughts. and changes ahead for this little MF Blog. Big Ones.

But FIRST I’ve got another MILESTONE!

{as if this year hasn’t had enough of them}

Moving-boxes-larger

If you wondered why perhaps you didn’t see any big fancy overly type-A MF honeymoon plans detailed here with some form of a DIY inspired travel bag, crazy unheard of adventures and a host of DT restaurants planned into some off-the-wall trip, eek  we will call that a #fail.

We never planned one. It was in our plans all along to postpone the honeymoon and take a trip over the holidays, but as luck turns out, we went into escrow the week of our wedding on a place we can’t wait to call home.

Looks like our honeymoon might now involve sitting on the floor of our new home with pizza boxes and a few bottles of cheap wine.  The term house poor is a reality, but I can’t wait to style DIY the heck out of our new home and {few} empty rooms in a few short weeks when we move in!

Anyone up for a painting party?

Pete’nDre. The Details.

Standard

We had so much fun planning, crafting, socializing, wine tasting, food tasting, cake tasting, arranging and more for our wedding last week.  As we crafted our celebration, there were details that mattered to us and those that were less important to us.

Our most important detail was a promise to one another that the evening would feel like us.

If that meant twisting traditions, unexpected surprises and {gasp} non-traditional wedding vendors, we would stay true to our creativity to design an affair that represented our style, our life and our loves.

I’ll be featuring all of the elements we placed our own personal touch and design on for our affair during a week-long Wedding special coming soon. For now, here’s a quick preview of some of my favorite details.

LOVE at First Drink.

Standard

 My first decent run in a while happened this morning. 7 miles down – 5 solo, 2 with the homies.  Felt so good (and so freeing). Plus, I have a total love affair with running in the rain so the 57* temp and drizzle was sweet perfection.

 When I got home I was famished….time to refuel.

A few weeks ago, via my relationship with FitFluential,  I was introduced to Muscle Gauge Nutrition –  a new line of body building, fat loss, and fitness supplements. The team at MGN are attempting to make the highest quality ingredients and supplements available to athletes for affordable pricing.  They offered me the opportunity to select some of their product to test out!!

Ever since I made a running comeback a little more than a year ago,  I’ve been working on my goal of 2012 miles in 2012. Certainly with all this running, I can EAT! but I find that my performance is dramatically effected by the types of foods I fuel my body with. As a red-meat disliker {except for In-N-Out eveeeeerrry.once.in.a.major.craving.while}, I’ve made an effort to incorporate far more proteins into my diet to ensure proper recovery and regrowth for my muscles.

So I picked out a protein powder – the Pure Isolate Whey Protein – that would provide me with a solid amount of protein and the proper amino acids for my recovery. The Pure Isolate comes in some pretty amazing flavors – Cake Batter, Chocolate, Cinnamon Bun, Ice Cream Sandwich, Rocky Road, Strawberry, Unflavored & Vanilla

I picked out Cake Batter and it was LOVE at first drink.

{side note, I’ve been a TRUE Trader Joe’s fan and even bought their protein powder for a while…  I was missing out.  There is no way you can compare their Whey protein in Chocolate and Vanilla to these flavors and this protein. Sorry TJ’s this may be your first loss in my book}

Lots of reasons why I loved MGN Cake Batter.

It Blends Well – NO chunks left behind

It’s sugar-free, lactose free, fat-free and digests super well –  NO rock in my stomach.

It tastes delicious – NO nasty metallic aftertaste.

With 25g of Protein per serving it fills me up – and keeps me full until lunch.

So I’ve been making a ton of smoothies and here are a few of my favorite fall smoothie recipes.

Checking Back In.

Standard

The last three months have been a complete and total whirlwind.

New Job, Wedding, Marathon, Travel, a jam-packed Schedule and that’s not even the end of it.  {more on that coming}

They say that the 5 biggest causes of stress are WORK, LIFE CHANGES, RELATIONSHIPS, ENVIRONMENT, and SELF GENERATED STRESSES

I guess you could say that I’ve dealt with most of these, except probably environmental stress.

What’s paramount to me is that through all of this, my relationship with the Mr. has remained rock solid.  In fact, when things got absolutely crazy around us, I think we found a sense of calm in working together, talking through things, putting our heads down and getting things done.  I suppose this is a pretty good confirmation of my choice to marry him as all I hear is that  things only get more complicated with marriage…. bring it.

That aside, I have felt really out of touch with the world around me.  There have been countless stories in the news that I’ve barely connected on – stories of devastation like Sandy and a Nanny gone Mad.  I’ve missed watching every single political debate and far less important, but certainly telling, I can’t tell you who the new hit artists are, what the holiday trends are or when the last time I sat at watched any nonsensical marathon on Bravo. For good reasons I’ve been wholly focused on my world, not the world around me. But I’m ready to step back out. It’s time to check back into life and the world around me.  To get re-acquainted with my thoughts, my writing and the people, the stories and the events around me.

I’ve been patient with myself throughout the last 3 months as I’ve tried to navigate my job and plan my once-in-a-lifetime event on top of training and finishing my third marathon.  For someone who is usually planned, goal oriented and a complete and total type A, I’m choosing a simpler path  (note: my version of simplicity probably varies 180* from other people’s version) for the next few months.  No major planning beyond what is already planned.  Simply living.  Simply thinking. Simply connecting.

 I’m going to let life take me on its course for a few weeks vs. charting and spreadsheeting and calendaring out my course.    I plan to enjoy the moment and listen to my thoughts.

I’m checking back in.

Today is Our Day.

Standard

I’ve been running. and running. and running.
{and this time it has nothing to do with running my feet}

today is our day.

it’s finally here.

 I cannot wait to share my life with you

I’m filled with emotions, each stronger than the next and they’re written in the sweet words that I’ll share with you tonight as we become husband and wife.

Masked Mexican Madness.

Standard

With all of the madness going on lately, the Mr. and I have been head down working through our jobs, planning our wedding and a few other really big things going on.  Friday night I planned a little surprise for the Mr. to give us a chance to get our heads out of “doing” and get back to fun.

The last big surprise I planned was this – and we were overdue for something a little out of the ordinary. So I planned it with a girlfriend of mine whose husband is a good friend of the Mr’s.  We agreed.  All Surprise.  No Clues.  No Questions Allowed.

{plus, there was really no way these two were ever going to guess this one}

Lucha VaVOOM!

from their site:

Lucha VaVOOM is a non-stop, action-packed scream-a-thon, where Mexican Masked wrestlers flip and fly, performing breathtaking acrobatic feats.  It’s good vs. evil played out in a one fall, Lucha Libre exhibition-style match for maximum enjoyment.

In between matches, the finest, handpicked burlesque acts from around the world astound us; at Lucha VaVOOM, we like a little sexo with our violencia.  Raucous aerial acts, Pogo-stick peelers, hula-hoop hotties; we’ve got it all.

um. yes… pretty. much. got. it. all.

As we waited for the doors to the Mayan to open, the show began on the sidewalk next to us as the wrestlers arrived in beat up hearses and on top of coffins.

Once inside, we staked out our location ringside

20121026_200759

If you’re down for getting a little dirty, midgets flying into the air and dodging masked Mexican wrestlers as they dive out the ring, you have to sit ringside. {plus, there are about 20 huge bouncers surrounding the ring for the sole purpose of blocking, tackling and catching these wrestlers before they hit the crowd}

This was one of the most insane experiences we’ve ever had.  And by insane, I mean ridiculously fun. Who doesn’t love fat, sweaty men in spandex, a hulahooping striptease by a ladyboy and flying chickens?

Oh, not you??

Try again.  GO.  Pinky prom, you’ll change your mind.   Next show in LA is around Valentines Day. Who wants to come with us?

This is absolutely the kind of fun you want need to have at least once in your life.
