Wedding Week: #Instagrammed

Standard

We thought about having a photo booth at our wedding, but at the end of the day, we felt like perhaps they had become a bit too cliché for our taste. Our venue, the SmogShoppe, happened to have a small pink closet which screamed “use me” in some interesting way.   We considered turning it into a Signature Drink bar where guests could grab one of our infused cocktails, but ultimately decided it made a perfect kissing take-your-own-photo booth.

This decision inspired a DIY Project of sorts and the hashtag #petendre.  No Fancy Cameras, No Props, No Special Lighting.  Just a festive sign on the wall, a DIY backdrop, a pink closet, cell phones and a ton of moments, memories and details captured by our guests both inside and outside the booth!

here are just a few of our favorites check out the rest here

and if you were there, keep them coming!  Upload to Instagram with #petendre

One Week to Mrs.

Standard

One week from today I’m marrying my best friend.

{photo from this wedding}

Words can’t quite describe the emotions – excitement, adoration, hope, comfort, overwhelming love – but more than anything, I’m at ease.  I’ve never been more certain of this decision.

Love you Mr.

{your future MF Mrs.}

the MF Bachelorette.

Standard

This past weekend my closest girlfriends threw me a surprise bachelorette.  Not the “Surprise we’ve kidnapped you and haha, you didn’t see this coming”, but get your bags packed, we’re taking you away this weekend and don’t ask any questions.

Surprises typically overwhelm the agro-type-A-planner in me, but something about relinquishing control to my favorite ladies put me completely at ease.  maybe I am learning something about control

They rented this house in Temecula, CA and it was amazing.  Super big, pool, jacuzzi, fire pit, outdoor bbq, wine, spa, my best friends, laughter {and more wine}.

and we capped the weekend off with a hysterical (and completely embarrasing) lingerie shower/how well do you know your groom.  I give my sister MAJOR points for asking the Mr. some of the questions she did…. {just wait, sister.  just wait.  I count 86 days until you tie the knot too}

I am so fortunate to have such an incredible group of sisters and friends.  As V so eloquently put it in her post,it was so amazing to see this group of friends come together to celebrate with me.   Many of them had never met prior to this weekend and seeing how easily they connected, laughed and shared with one another was an amazing testament to the women they are and the friends they are.

We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you again – the countdown is really on.

2 weeks.

DIY Sugared and Scrubbed.

Standard

My girlfriends are throwing me a surprise bachelorette this weekend and aside from the fact that I know wherever we’re going is driveable, I don’t have a clue what’s ahead.   I have tried {and failed} to beat the details out of them am super excited for all of the details to unfold.

I wanted to surprise all of them with a little gift and since girls are made of “sugar and spice and everything nice”, I’m armed with a DIY sugared surprise for all of them as a small thank you for all they’ve done.

DIY Sugar Scrub

I created my own version of a Sugar Scrub that both exfoliates and moisturizes – simple and easy, it is an easy DIY that can be created with just a few simple ingredients.   Feel free to customize the oils based on your own scent preferences.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup organic brown sugar
  • 1 cup organic white sugar
  • 1/2 cup body oil (I used an almond-scented moisturizing oil)
  • 1 teaspoon argan oil
  • 1 teaspoon rose hip oil
  • Hermetic Jars

Some background on why I chose each of these ingredients:

  • Brown and white sugar — Brown sugar has a bit of a rougher texture than white sugar and when mixed together, they blend the perfect consistency for a scrub which is not too harsh, nor too easy on the skin.
  • Body oil —  There is lots of room for flexibility here – pick your preference.  I used NOW Sweet Almond Oil.  Other alternatives that work nicely are olive oil, or even Neutrogena Body Oil.
  • Argan oil — If you’ve never heard of this before, you must know about Argan Oil – it’s truly a miracle oil – particularly for those of us with semi-frizz ball hair.  Not only does it smooth hair, but it helps protect against wrinkles, reduce skin irritation, repair elasticity and remedy dry skin.
  • Rose hip oil — Rose hip oil is truly an amazing product, which has only recently become recognized by the general public.  It is believed to be the best oil available for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation.  It contains vitamin A, which helps delay the effects of skin aging, assists with cell regeneration, and promotes collagen. This should result in firmer, smoother, and more youthful skin, with greater elasticity.
  • Hermetic Jars — My favorite vintage style glass jars with flip top lids that I found at Surfas. For those of you who don’t live in LA, they have great deals on them here.

Besides the ingredients, all you need is a large bowl, spoon and measuring cups.  Simple, Easy and So Fast.

Add all of your ingredients into a bowl and mix well. The sugar should look “fluffy.” Originally I started out with only 1/3 cup Almond Oil and after mixing it all together, I went back in and added a bit more bringing it to 1/2 cup total to ensure that it wasn’t too dry.  Feel free to add/subtract to your desired consistency.   Once your scrub is blended well, spoon your mixture into airtight containers, label and share!

Tip: This recipe produces enough scrub for two 7-oz. containers.

Showered.

Standard

About a week ago some of my favorite friends hosted a Wine and Cheese {and Sweets} shower for me at one of my girlfriends new home. It was particularly special for me to be able to bring so many women together from all of the many dynamics of my life  – work, play, running, yoga, high school, college and new friends and family that I’ve gained through the Mr.

Here are some of the moments – the laughter, the tears, the smiles and the sweets!!

He Said. He Said.

Standard

I do.

Last night as we were toasting and roasting, a friend read this excerpt from “The Velveteen Rabbit”

“What is REAL?” the Velveteen Rabbit asked the Skin Horse one day. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Velveteen Rabbit .

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand. But once you are Real you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always.”

Cheers to a couple that celebrates life.

Cheers to a couple that’s Real.

Cheers to a couple I believe in.

Love you both. For always.
